About Us
What we do
The Inspired Lumber Project offers access to woodshop programs that serve as pathways for empowerment and personal growth. We recognize that Woodworking is more than just a craft—it is a powerful tool for building skills, fostering community, and enhancing well-being. Through the hands-on creation of wood projects, participants not only develop valuable real-world skills but can also experience a deeper sense of purpose, connection, and long-term positive mental health.
Why we do it
The story starts with the owners of Inspired Lumber Workshop, Brian and Anna Kolin. Brian had seen the camaraderie and collaboration first-hand while in another shop, and knew that he wanted to share that experience with others.
In their own words… ”We created the Salute to Carpentry program because, while we aren't veterans ourselves, we felt a genuine calling to serve those who have so loyally served us and our country. Woodworking offers a unique space for connection, purpose, and creativity, and we wanted to share that with the men and women who have given so much. It’s our small way of giving back, providing a place where they can feel valued, find camaraderie, and know our deep gratitude for their service.”
Where we are today
The Salute to Carpentry Program is designed specifically for veterans and first responders, offering woodworking experiences that promote skill development, build connections, and strengthen emotional resilience. Additionally, we offer them ongoing Wood Shop Access, creating a safe, supportive space where they can engage with themselves and others through the craft of woodworking.
Our commitment also extends to providing Educational Programming for children, neuro-diverse individuals, and those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their challenges, has the opportunity to engage in meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.
Where we hope to go
Our vision for The Inspired Lumber Project is one of sustained growth and lasting impact, focusing on expanding our reach to serve more veterans, first responders, and other marginalized groups. We aim to enhance the quality of our programs, creating new workshops and developing additional skill-building initiatives tailored to their needs.
